ABOUT LOROCO INDUSTRIES - HISTORICAL OVERVIEW

Loroco is Cincinnati's oldest paper converter

Louis Rozin & Grandson LeeThe Cincinnati Great FloodLoroco Industries, Inc., founded in 1898 by Louis O. Rozin, is now located at its fourth site since Mr.Rozin founded it.

Loroco was originally engaged in the business of die-cutting leather shoe components which were in turn re-sold to shoe manufacturers. Loroco was located in downtown Cincinnati, in the Third Street manufacturing district.

Mr. Rozin subsequently discovered that die-cutting paperboard was less difficult, and more profitable than leather and the company switched to laminated paper and paperboard products.

Mr. Rozin's sons, Arthur and Harry, took over the business in the 1930s, and after the great flood of 1937, moved to a drier location in Reading, Ohio.

War boosts production Loroco History

When the Second World War began, Loroco found itself without a reliable supply of chipboard which is a necessary ingredient in laminated paper and paperboard products.

Arthur Rozin discovered that U.S. Gypsum Company had a gypsum board mill (used to make the covering for drywall board) in Lancaster, Ohio, about 125 miles from Cincinnati. Mr. Rozin bought the mill from U.S. Gypsum in 1943, and converted it to make chipboard.

Postwar Expansion

After the war, Loroco continued to grow, as the need for various paper and paperboard items increased.

By the 1970s, Loroco had outgrown its Reading Plant, and in 1974, moved to its present location on Creek Road in Blue Ash, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati.

Lee Rozin, third generation of the Rozin family, stepped into the leadership. Under his direction, there was installation of three full paper lamination and paper and paperboard die-cutting lines and a new extrusion coating line at the Blue Ash facility.
